The African Population and Health Research Center (aphrc.org) is a global leader in research and research capacity strengthening based in Nairobi, Kenya. We use research in health, education, aging, population dynamics and urbanization to develop a robust evidence base that can help shape development policy across the continent.
APHRC has developed a series of short courses targeting mid-career professionals, drawing on 15 years of leadership in conceptualizing and running large donor-funded projects. These training programs were developed based on expertise gleaned from the successful funding of nearly 40 research projects annually, which have produced more than 800 peer-reviewed journal articles for the Center’s researchers in the last decade.
We kick off our 2016 curriculum with a grant proposal writing workshop, providing participants with insight born from experience in getting to YES for successful research proposals. This three-day course will equip participants with sound skills and top strategies to develop winning and ethically sound grant proposals, working through the steps of a pre-identified proposal call with the insights and perspectives of a reviewer guiding them to the most effective way of communicating their ideas and research questions.
The three-day workshop will take place at APHRC’s leafy and quiet campus in Kitisuru in Nairobi, at a cost of USD 350 or Kes. 35,000, which is inclusive of lunch and teas.
The benefits: The workshop presents a tremendous opportunity for would-be grant writers, aspiring researchers, and academic entrepreneurs with great ideas but limited experience in successfully selling them. The opportunities afforded by successful grant-writing put researchers on the fast track to career growth. Workshop participants will also interact with accomplished top African researchers with track records of winning competitive grants and who are implementing complex research projects at multi-country, multi-institutional levels.
