Most families in the urban informal settlements can barely manage to feed themselves, let alone have the money to afford healthcare and medicines. Owing to this fact, APHRC holds bi-annual free medical camps in Viwandani and Korogocho slums to cater to needs of these communities.
During these camps:
Every year, close to 5000 consultations are done, 1200 children weighed, 150 children vaccinated, 80 women given family planning services, 60 patients screened for TB (with new cases detected), 300 adults offered VCT, 1200 adults screened (with tens of new diabetics detected)
How can you get involved?
The annual direct costs for the four medical camps are $20,000. Your donation, however little, will make a huge impact on the lives of the urban poor.
