The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, engaged in multidisciplinary, policy-oriented research. Our aim is to inform decision-making with evidence generated by and for Africans to drive improved population health and wellbeing across the continent, in line with global targets including the Sustainable Development Goals and the ability of African countries to harness the Demographic Dividend to drive economic growth and social change.
We are seeking a seasoned advocacy and communications professional to lead in the interim the Immunization Advocacy Initiative, whose objective is to strengthen capacity of civil society organizations in three sub-Sahara African countries to be able to effectively advocate for increased domestic financing for immunization and improved service delivery. The project presents the opportunity to lead the implementation of both a regional and national contextual approach to identifying and convening stakeholders in Kenya, Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.
The right candidate should be able to quickly understand civil society and political space, and health and immunization landscape in the three countries as well as the policy environment at a regional and international level. S/he should be able to identify where opportunities and entry points exist in order to address both regional and national priorities.
To develop and execute a regional advocacy strategy and to work with an array of civil society stakeholders to develop national advocacy strategies that will utilize evidence to improve increase resource allocation, expand implementation of existing policies and improve immunization service delivery
To oversee the development of the online learning platform, project identity and development of collateral
To develop and manage a calendar of activities and provide support to the team and collaborating partner in achieving initiative goals
Monitor trends in health and immunization, civil society space, political space and any shifts in country priorities as well as track progress in level of engagement of civil society in policy dialogue
Participate in review meetings, provide guidance on advocacy and capacity building activities and develop way forward from meetings
Compile progress reports, participate in check-in calls with collaborating partners as well as contribute to donor reports
Support on the conceptualization of inception meeting and lead on execution
