Consultancy Opportunity: Project Identity, Brand Guidelines and Web Design

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading Africa-based, African-led, international research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and well-being. We engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings to influence policy decisions and improve the quality of life in Africa.
APHRC seeks to engage a firm to provide graphic and web design services to support development of a logo, branding guideline as well as an online platform to promote a five-year project for enhancing local immunization communications and advocacy in Africa – Immunization Advocacy Initiative. This initiative seeks to promote national ownership and responsibility for immunization services through increased domestic financing for immunization and improved policies. Local civil society organizations at all levels will lead the implementation of this initiative through partnerships, networks and coalitions. These organizations shall undergo sustained capacity strengthening, share lessons and interact with counterparts from other countries. The focus countries for this initiative are: Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Kenya.
To enhance communications, advocacy, knowledge management and learning, the Immunization Advocacy Initiative requires, among other tools, an effective website that is a hub for national organizations to share resources, and provide an interface for interaction among other features.
Logo in high resolution formats (JPEG, PNG and scalable vector)
Templates for creative collateral shared in illustrator, pdf, jpeg or png formats in both high resolution and compressed versions for website uploading where applicable
Brand guidelines to ensure harmonized use of the Immunization Advocacy Initiative brand and logo on creative collateral in different countries
Web–based learning and engagement platform
A website that includes attractive and easy to navigate landing page, repository and interactive format that encourages engagement
Back-end coding that improves functionality for display on desktops, mobile phones, tablets etc.
Main functionalities of this platform include:
News and trending content blocks. The website should have a calendar of activities, latest news, RSS feeds (from social media platforms and key websites on accountability)
Built on CMS as opposed to static HTML
Interactive and provides features that allow registration to blog, upload news, comments and link to documents such as reports and facts and figures in other formats such as Pdf, jpeg or png, among others
Ability to display on portable and mobile devices
Host a dynamic database that has rich content
Discussion board and black boards for sharing
Capability to host and online discussion forums
Ability to host multimedia content that can be streamed from the website
Ability to generate key analytics including number of visitors and bounce rates
Bilingual interface for both English and French users of the website
User dashboard area only accessible via secure login, with a user management system (Access control structures)
Full site search support
The website should be cross platform compatible with multiple browsers including: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Chrome
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for the website to improve visibility
An expansive portfolio that demonstrates skills in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Avid, Final Cut Pro and other graphic design software and print.
Initiative and sound judgment and ability to understand and process client feedback to improve assignments.
Ability to plan, prioritize and deliver quality deliverables while working with tight timelines.
Creative, innovative thinker with excellent design skills.
A full stack web developer (Front and backend) with at least three (3) years of experience in design & development of web applications and use of relational databases coupled with web frameworks such as Laravel, CI, Zend, Yii or any other modern web framework.
Experience and extensive use of Content Management Systems particularly Word Press, Joomla, Drupal or any other modern CMS.
Experience using collaborative software tools such as SVN, GIT, CVS and Mercurial for version control purposes.
Strong skills in designing interactive responsive user interfaces.
Ability to analyze and critique requirements and make recommendations on possible solution designs.
Ability to complete work independently, incorporate client feedback, and deliver on time.
