As Policy Engagement Manager, Mwangi is involved in strategic strengthening of APHRC’s relationships and name recognition within public and social sectors across the continent. This will help ensure that APHRC’s research output is able to influence policymakers and helps inform their decisions. He will work closely with the Education, Urbanization and Wellbeing, and Health Challenges and Systems research programs.
Prior to joining APHRC, Mwangi worked as consultant focused on the public sector. He has also worked in marketing and academia. He holds a BA in Geography from the University of South Africa and an MA in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
Mwangi is driven by the desire to be involved in good work: that which is done well and drives social change. He believes that sub-Saharan Africa is undergoing immense transformation. Working at APHRC provides the opportunity to contribute to this transformation by helping to shape the decisions governments make about their people.
In his spare time, you will find Mwangi running, swimming and biking, preferably all at the same time. He enjoys coffee – the stronger the better – and thinks it’s great that the APHRC offices are located right next to a coffee farm. Mwangi is also a proud FONA (Friend of Nairobi Arboretum).
