Setting Agendas for research and debate on aging in sub-Saharan Africa

The Aging and Development Program aims to capture policy-relevant understandings about the status of older adults in sub-Saharan Africa. Key initiatives in this regard have included:                                                                                                           (i) The convening of two International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) Africa region conferences: the first in 2012 in Cape Town , South Africa, ‘Ageing Africa: Beyond Madrid +10‘ and in 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya, ‘Long Term Care Systems for Africa: Setting Agendas‘                                               (ii) Two publications on directions for  African gerontology  and                                                                                                                   (iii) Capacity building efforts such as enhancing the participation of African countries in the 20th World Congress of the IAGG, Seoul; convening of GSIA master class on Families, Ageing and Care and an Introductory Course in Geriatric Medicine for the forthcoming 2nd Africa Region Conference
