Nonhlanhla Nxumalo is a researcher at the Centre for Health Policy at the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her interests are in access to health care and issues regarding social exclusion. She is in the process of completing her doctoral research which focuses on examining the extent to which community health workers provide comprehensive primary health care and enable marginalized communities to access the formal health system and other sectors that are associated with the social determinants of health. She was also involved in a study that is focused on the development of social health insurance in South Africa. She is currently involved in a project called Consortium for Health Policy and Systems Analysis in Africa (CHEPSAA), which aims to develop sustained African health policy and systems research capacity.
