APHRC Works to Build Baby Friendly Communities in Kenya

May 13, 2014

The Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition program at APHRC in conjunction with the Center’s Policy Engagement and Communications Division carried out a focus group discussion and community dialogue session on nutrition practices with middle income mothers on the 13th of May 2014 at the Hongs Restaurant in Hurlingham, Nairobi.

The session was a continuation of a series of community dialogues, focus group discussions and key in-depth interviews across different parts of the country targeting diverse social, cultural and economic clusters of people in Kenya. The sessions aim to establish innovative, public-informed approaches of community engagement in Baby Friendly Community Initiatives, through participatory action research at the community level as well as two and three-way dialogues amongst researchers, policy makers/program implementers and the general public using innovative multimedia efforts.

The team has conducted these sessions in different counties including Kwale, Vihiga, Machakos, Kajiado, Nairobi and Kiambu.
